Thanks Alfie who brought in his puppets today.
The children have really enjoyed designing and making puppets. We would like to thank Mrs Whitfield for all the extra help she gave us which enabled the children to finish them today. After looking at Sooty and Sweep, Punch and Judy and The Muppets amongst others; 14 of the children wanted to make Santa. We also had Batman, Zorro and various other swordsmen. I will upload the photos soon
The children learned all about remembrance day and why the Tower of London is surrounded with Ceramic Poppies. There will be an assembly on this tomorrow.
We have discussed the topic of hard work in PSHE this week. The children thought about famous people such as Usain Bolt. Why is he the best? What does he have to do to prepare for a 10 second race? We came to the conclusion that he spends four years training correctly, getting out of bed early in the morning to go out running, having a healthy breakfast then going to the track to practise his sprinting technique, eating a healthy lunch, going to the gym in the afternoon, swimming and watching videos of other athletes to learn more about them, discussing tactics and many other things. ALL THIS FOR 10 SECONDS. However, he has done the best that he possibly can.
decided that all successful people have one thing in common; they work hard. How can this impact on us as learners in the classroom. We decided that we also need to work hard. Sometimes we will be doing things that we don't like or that don't motivate us. Howe ver, we still need to work hard The children had a wonderful day when they came dressed as Victorians. They learned what is was like in a Victorian classroom and also got to play with the Victorian toys which they really enjoyed. We also practised for the assembly. They all learnt a quite difficult dance and performed it superbly; 10 children also volunteered to sing solo which was a record for an autumn assembly. Their behaviour was impeccable. I want to thank the parents and the children for working so hard at home to learn their lines and the lyrics to two songs. We also dedicated this assembly to a friend of mine called Pete Shutler who was the accordionist for a famous English folk group. This group are the source of many tunes that we use for dance in the Autumn term. I have spoken to the remaining two members of the group and they were very touched that we did this and they said that Pete would have been honoured that we had thought of him. Thank you too the children for making a difficult assembly look easy.
